This video explains the correct procedure for servicing the Eaton M45 supercharger used in the R53 MINI Cooper S and JCW. We walk through removal, oil change, inspection, and optional upgrades including reduced pulleys and colder plugs.
Why Supercharger Servicing Matters
The Eaton M45 supercharger on the R53 uses internal oil and BMW recommend an oil service at 100k miles, but we’ve seen the oil disappear from the smaller water pump-bearing chamber far earlier. Our service protects the blower and keeps your R53 pulling hard.

FAQs
How much does R53 supercharger servicing cost?
£550 for a standard oil change. If you want a reduced pulley and colder plugs fitted at the same time, the total is £810.
Do you use proper supercharger oil?
Yes. We use Eaton-spec supercharger oil in both chambers — not engine oil or alternatives.
Do you replace the pulley or just the oil?
We offer both options. Pulley replacement is optional, but recommended if you want more boost. Colder NGK plugs are included with pulley upgrades.
How long does it take?
Most supercharger services are completed the same day. Drop off by 9am and we’ll usually have it ready by end of day – providing we don’t counter any curved balls like snapped bolts or find something unexpected.
Will this affect my insurance?
A reduced pulley counts as a performance modification. We recommend informing your insurer.
