Welcome to The MINI Specialist. We picked up a budget MINI One at auction, only to discover the previous owner’s DIY ‘enhancements’ left a lot to be desired. So, we set out to do it properly—on a budget, but without cutting corners.

This video takes you through the full transformation process as we upgrade the car to look (and sound) like a proper Cooper S.

What Did We Change?

  • Front & rear Cooper S bumpers
  • Correct Cooper S alloy wheels
  • Bonnet swap to Cooper S spec with scoop
  • Resonator delete exhaust mod for sporty sound
  • Trim clean-up and minor mechanical fixes

Why Do This?

While a true Cooper S has the performance to match, this conversion is perfect for owners wanting the visual appeal and character of the Cooper S without the insurance and fuel costs. We retained the MINI One’s reliability but added Cooper S swagger.

FAQs

Can I turn a MINI One into a Cooper S?

You can replicate the look, but not the engine. Visually, yes—by swapping bumpers, bonnet, exhaust tips, and wheels. Performance-wise, it will still be a MINI One unless you do an engine conversion.

Does it cost much to do the conversion?

It depends on how you source parts. We used second-hand and aftermarket parts where sensible. Expect to spend between £500–£1,500 depending on quality and labour.

Will insurance be affected by this conversion?

Yes — you must declare any visual or mechanical modifications to your insurer. They may adjust the premium even if the engine hasn’t changed.

Can this be reversed?

Yes. As long as you keep your original parts, this sort of cosmetic conversion can be undone.
